Throughout anyone’s high school career, numerous books are consumed in the pursuit of a passing grade in English class. From the classics, such as Romeo and Juliet, to more contemporary novels, there are just a few that stand out after all these years. One of these is a certain novel by S.E. Hinton, The Outsiders, telling a timeless story about a boy stuck in a world defined by social classes. Defined by his status and unable to break the cycle that keeps him and the rest of the greasers in their place, the narrative of Ponyboy is one that resonates not only with us but also with so many around the world. The story of The Outsiders continues in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, which we caught during our latest trip to New York City.
